Template — Visitor invitation letter
Use this when you invite a friend or family member for a Standard Visitor trip. The visitor must still qualify in their own right (genuine visit, funds, ties to home). Keep the letter simple and consistent with the visitor’s online application.
How to use
- Replace all square-bracket placeholders accurately (names, dates, passport numbers).
- Keep details consistent across the visitor’s form, your invitation letter, and any bookings.
- Attach your UK status proof and address evidence.
- If you’ll provide financial support, include the optional paragraph and attach recent bank statements and payslips.

FAQs
Do I need to notarise the invitation letter?
No, notarisation is not normally required. Keep it clear, consistent, and attach the supporting documents listed.
Should I include photos or chat logs as relationship proof?
Light, proportionate evidence can help (e.g., a few photos over time), but keep the bundle focused and readable.
Can a friend (not family) be invited?
Yes. Briefly explain the relationship and provide accommodation details. The visitor must still meet funds/ties requirements.
Is a multi-year visit visa a multi-year stay?
No. Each visit is typically limited to up to 6 months even if the visa is valid for multiple years.
Information only — not legal advice. There is no formal “sponsorship” visa for visits; the visitor must meet the Standard Visitor rules themselves.
